I lost my Mum in 2010 to cancer. Was THE hardest thing I’ve ever had to go through and I don’t think much else could top it. Although my cousin and I were close when young, we kind of drifted apart.

When Mum was diagnosed, we started to talk more and she did amazing things for both of us. There was a HUGE divide between us – she went to university, I didn’t. Our parents were different. Hers still married, mine divorced and my Mum struggled to survive as a single parent. As different as our backgrounds are, we are still close. We both have issues with our pasts, we both try to be the best we can be like anybody does.

This blog though is devoted to her. For her kindness, her compassion, her contagious strength. I wish I could return the favours somehow, I wish I could do for her what she does for me. She is the greatest role model  (besides my Mum) that I could ever have. I love you Lyanne. You truly are an inspiration……..

Yesterday was my birthday. Another year older, another year closer to 40…… of which I was constantly reminded throughout my special day. Oh joy!!!

The day started great. My 11 year old son made me a “special” cup of coffee and eagerly stood in front of me waiting for me to taste it. Despite him using half the jar of coffee and equal amounts of sugar I actually enjoyed it! Took a while for the shakes and extreme hyperactivity to wear off though…..

The highlight of my day however was the gift of a cut and finish at a hair salon from my (amazing) cousin. Bearing in mind I hadn’t set foot in a salon in over 10 years, this was a HUGE moment for me. My hair is very long and was well overdue for a taming session, so, filled with excitement and dread, I took a friend for moral support. The salon was gorgeous!! My coat was taken and both me and my friend were offered a choice of beverages. I was sat down, we discussed what I wanted and I was sent to have my hair washed. This was the first mind-blowing, WOW moment. The freaking chair had a back massager!!! Hair wash, head massage, plus back massage………hello heaven!! How the hell did I miss out on this all these years??? However, still totally amazed by this experience, it was time for….. *drum roll* ……the cut.

After repeatedly telling the stylist (who was sooooo lovely) that I only wanted a tiny bit cut off, it began. As she cut we chatted and she learned that it was my birthday. Cue epic-hair-salon-experience number two! Both me and my friend were then brought a large glass of wine each!! This was definitely something I could get used to. After cutting, blowdrying and styling it was all over. I looked in the mirror and was amazed. Side fringe, layers, curls…..a massive difference to the usual mane I was used to. It was a hairstyle rather than a hanging mop. Impressive!!! The whole experience was fantastic. The salon and staff were lovely, my hair was lovely, my birthday was lovely. Now I just need the WAG lifestyle to go with the new do……..

Okay, so the world is going to end in December, my kitten is in full heat mode waking me up at stupid o’clock calling for like-minded males (even tho she has never set foot outside the house) , American Horror Story is done for a WHOLE year. Jobhunting as a single parent is like looking for the perfect man. I’m thinking of jumping off the doorstep to end my misery.

On the upside my beloved Xbox returned from Germany today, all shiny and new looking – suspicious as to whether it’s the same one I sent off for repair >.>

I’ll interrogate it later.
